I chose one elective in power point presentations for my afternoon program. It was an individualized program that allowed me to work at my own pace. It was very helpful in my work placement in marketing.

Work Experience
Students spend mornings of weeks 5 – 8 in a work place setting practicing their English communication. The sole purpose of this placement is to improve the student's communication in English in a working environment. First term internships are pre-selected for all students prior to commencement. All students return to CCEL each afternoon (Monday to Thursday) for a business integration class where they will evaluate their progress, learn about business etiquette, look at issues that arise from the morning work session, discuss cultural and business challenges, and prepare for the final internship.

Students then spend all day of weeks 9 – 12 in a formal internship. The internship is designed for university students who have experience or education that they can bring to a company in exchange for the opportunity to work alongside or on specific projects in a working environment. Placements are fulltime, Monday to Friday, for the last 4 weeks of the 12-week program and are arranged by a series of interviews and job searches by CCEL staff. Every effort is made to meet the exact needs of the student but sometimes the student's English level, qualifications and experience may limit the options available. Work experience placements are an opportunity to learn English vocabulary and usage specific to a student's chosen career, to make connections with a student's professional peers and to develop long-term business relationships.

I worked for 4 weeks with a software development company testing prototype software and assisting with project development. It was a valuable opportunity to work with software developer and to understand the jargon used.
(27-year-old Computer Software Developer from Mexico )

Students must write resumes, submit job applications, and have an interview with prospective employers as part of the internship experience.
•  All students have 4 weeks of part time work experience in a non-specific work place to practice their communication skills.
•  In the final 4 weeks students experience a second placement in a fulltime internship position chosen to complement their university study program and to enhance their business resume. Placement depends on English level, experience, training, education, and availability.
•  Placements have been made in most career areas

Conclusions
This comprehensive program is designed specifically for university students who need a legitimate international internship study program as part of their degree. The program is structured so that it starts with formal lessons studying communication in English. The second part is a work placement in a non-specific working environment where the tasks are very simple and require little prerequisite training or education and the focus is on communication in English. This placement is part time, mornings only, and is supported by an afternoon business integration class at CCEL. The third part is spent with a company that gives the student tasks related to his university studies and chosen career. The nature of the tasks will appropriate to the abilities and skills of each individual and the needs of the company.

The goal is to place students fully prepared and able to work effectively in a professional working environment to get maximum benefit from their Canadian business experience. The 12-week comprehensive approach is a more effective learning process than placing unprepared, inexperienced students in a work placement with no preparation in communicating in a foreign language. A program based on communication training, preparation, and support, has proven to be of optimum value for the company and the student. Student and company evaluations, letters of reference from employers, and job offers from Canadian an international companies support the success of this program.
