Elective Sample - Topics in Religion and Culture

This course will look at a few major religions in different ways. We’ll be comparing cultural aspects of religion and different spiritualities. Asking questions like “why are people religious, what does it mean to be religious…and so on?”

Assessment Basis
Students will be assessed on their level of engagement in class discussions. Their preparedness in terms of assigned readings. Weekly small quizzes and in the last week all the students will be making presentations in pairs and handing in short papers on the same theme for which they will have prepared on Tuesdays when the whole class will spend the time in the library (research skills).
Outcomes
Students will have a working vocabulary and be able to discuss cultural and religious issues with greater ease and comfort. They will have an expanded vocabulary; will have learned about different religious cultures; will have developed skill and confidence in public speaking; will have some practice in writing essays (with feedback).
