The Pre-Master’s Program is for students who have completed their undergraduate degree and plan to apply for further study at Canadian academic institutions.  This 36 week program contains three comprehensive levels which offer the tools necessary for academic success at the graduate level.

Overview of the Pre-Master’s Program
The Pre-Master’s Program is designed for students who need to meet the requirements for entry into North American graduate programs.  Each of the three levels allows students to adapt to academic and cultural differences, to develop graduate level skill-sets, and to assess their individual needs and integrate their learning in order to prepare themselves for master’s level work.  The time commitment for this program is approximately 25-30 hours per week and consists of seminars, lectures, tutorials, and independent study/research/writing.

Independent Study

The Pre-Master’s Program contains large components of library and online research, reading, and writing.  Although this is a requirement for the successful completion of the program, CCEL will offer guidance through mentoring, coaching, and tutorial programs.

The Pathway
Students applying to the Pre-Master’s Program come with individual needs.  Upon acceptance to the program, students will be assessed based on their academic backgrounds,  grade point averages, English levels, and graduate program goals.  Throughout the Pre-Master’s Program, students will continue to be assessed in order to establish realistic timelines for application to graduate schools.
The Process
Entry Requirements
    • Level 1: TOEFL 530/197, IELTS 5.0
    • Level 2: TOEFL 550/213, IELTS, 5.5
    • Level 3: TOEFL 575/230, IELTS 6.0

Students without an official English score must write a pre-assessment test at CCEL one week prior to entry into the Pre-Master’s Program.  Any students who are assessed lower than the entry level score may register for Intensive English and Exam Preparation courses and take the Pre-Master’s Program at a later date.
