This class will develop into an interactive communicative "experience" where the emphasis of whatever is presented to the students is that SPEAKING would dominate. This class is intended to be opened to high Intemediate students and up. I stress high intemediate because the material that I have is non-ESL and experience has taught that candidates at this level can be quite communicative and can work alongside higher level students.
READING, academic and NON-ESL material, will be used so as to give the students a more REAL challenge. Reading will be one of the heavily based skills.
LISTENING. I will rely on "The History of Canada" video series and videos I've collected.
USE OF ENGLISH. I will sneak in structures and exercises which will be detailed and explained to the students. Vocabulary will play an important role in the class and they will have ample exercises to help them improve and acquire a more extended vocabulary.
Assessment Basis
EXAMS,TESTS,QUIZZES. I will work in a testing scheme where the student will be able to see his or her progress or at least "get" the feel that they have been improving. An ORAL PRESENTATION will definetly be required. this will be a project where the individual will have to choose from a list of topics, investigate and present. Presentation will be made to another class and the presenter will receive a "Speaking Evaluation".
Outcomes
The candidates will walk away from the afternoon experience with the concept of how to develop an oral presentation, the experience of addressing a group of peers on a theme that he or she has developed.
