Elective Sample - Current Events

This course emphasizes discussion and debate based on current news and cultural topics.

It emphasizes Canadian topics to enhance students’ knowledge of other cultures. Students are encouraged to express themselves and be open to the ideas and opinions of others.

Assessment Basis
Every week students will have to do 2 large newspaper readings, and occasional viewing of video (usually newsclips). Homework is given once or twice a week. Based on this, students must complete comprehension exercises and then take part in pair work and group work discussions.
Outcomes
Throughout this course students will improve their ability to express themselves in a developed manner on topics they previously may not have felt comfortable with in English.

Speaking, Reading and Listening skills will be enhanced.
